GRAPHIC DESIGN

Book Covers

My philosophy surrounding cover design is oftentimes quite bold in the choice of shapes, content, and colors, but with an express emphasis on easy readability (particularly at various sizes). I also enjoy playing, lightly, with traditional media and digital design, such that my designs might contain more of the hand of the artist.

Book Internals

In terms of internal book design, I still aim to try and incorporate some more bold and hand-drawn elements, my emphasis is very much on readability and clarity.

Website Designs

Alongside my normal graphic design, I also occasionally do some website design through Squarespace. My goal with web-design is making easily navigable, clear and clean designs. Aside from designing my own website (this one!) I have also recently designed the following:

Miscellaneous Designs

My design background includes various products that go beyond the normal print-media, and include things like the designs of an entire blu-ray product, as well as various promotional materials for my own work, and others.

These are designs for the fictional blu-ray disc (from mock-criterion collection æmbedextrous editions) for the fictional film Miscellaneous Kisses by Sadie Tang. This is a creation of award-winning author Hazel Jane Plante for Melissa Adler’s project Eros/Oikos at the University of Western Ontario. I designed the entirety of this product in close collaboration with Plante, from the cover of the blu-ray, the logo for æmbedextrous editions and the booklet inside that included Plante’s fictional essay on the film, all the way down to the sticker that was placed on the disc included in the case.

I have also made various promotional materials, especially for my own books. These have included tarot cards and mock Yu-gi-oh trading cards connected to My Volcano, posters for exhibits, and a fake employee ID for the setting of my next novel (The Museum of Sexual Deviance). These designs are often focused on being playful and engaging, while remaining clear and readable.
