I offer an array of creative services (under the umbrella of STAGGERHEAD) and which range from freelance editing, 1:1 mentorship, book design, illustration, as well as documentary and portrait photography. Check out samples below, and head over to my contact page to figure out how to work with me!

EDITING:

As a multi-disciplinary writer, artist, and teacher, I’ve got a variety of skills and experience that I bring into my editing work. I’ve been an editor in some form or another since undergrad (where I edited, designed, and produced an entire magazine for my college mostly on my own). Specifically, I’ve been a poetry editor at Contemporary Verse 2 since 2021, and have edited books (fiction and poetry) for independent presses like Book*hug (Disobedience by Daniel Sarah Karsasik) and Arsenal Pulp Press (More Sure by A. Light Zachary). I’m open to working on manuscripts at various stages of their lives, and am particularly skilled at helping authors develop their work to reflect their unique vision.

I’m also open to working with you 1:1 in a more mentorship capacity, which might look less like an editorial relationship. I’m happy to share testimonials from other folks I’ve worked on in the past if you would like to see that.

BOOK COVER DESIGN:

In terms of my book cover design work, I specialize in covers that play with textures, photo-manipulation, illustration, and bold typography, while also offering clean and readable internals. I’m happy to work on cover designs, or full-chapbook or full-book designs (covers + internals) as well. I’ve done covers for books from Feminist Press, Coffee House Press, Arsenal Pulp Press, Two Dollar Radio, and independent authors like Axel B. Kolcow. My cover design for My Volcano was even selected as one of the 12 best covers of March 2022 by LitHub.

ILLUSTRATION:

I really love the creative challenge of illustrations, especially editorial work. My illustrations are notable for their expressive line work, bright colors, and imagination. The above illustrations are all editorial illustrations I’ve done for Short Story, Long (a literary magazine that publishes longer short stories followed by illustrations). My new book, the short story collection Bad Houses, is also chock full of expressive ink illustrations. I work both traditionally and digitally, and often a hybrid.

DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY:

If you’re in the greater Kansas City area and need a documentary photography, I’m your photographer! I’m particularly suited to small gatherings/parties and behind-the-scenes photography, but we would love to hear your needs. I’m a very low-profile, natural light photographer, and can do work either digitally or with film (or a combination!). My photographs are often playful, quiet, and expressive.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY:

If you’re in the greater Kansas City area and need a portrait photography, I’d love to work with you! I’m very collaborative, and as a documentary photographer as well, really like to use environmental portrait techniques in my portraiture. As with all my visual work, I’m expressive and playful, and enjoy working with clients in spaces that make them the most comfortable rather than through the studio setting.
